Preparatory Choir, (Kindergarten-2nd grade)

This choir is open to all those who enjoy singing. Children perform basic choral literature and learn to match pitch, use their singing voice, play Orff-Schulwerk instruments, and receive instruction in elementary theory and musicianship. Meets Tuesday after school.

Training Choir - (3rd-5th grade)

Constance Hurtt, Director

Anyone who loves to sing may join this choir. Learn to match pitch, produce a beautiful tone and sing with a group. Children receive theory instruction, play Orff-Schulwerk instruments, and sing traditional songs in unison and two-part harmony. Meets Tuesday and Thursday after school.

Intermediate Choir - (6th-8th grade)

Members of this ensemble continue the study of music theory and basic musicianship at a more advanced level and perform in different musical genres and languages. Emphasis is on beginning harmony, intonation, note values, rhythm and vocal technique. Students are admitted to the Intermediate Choir either by audition or by moving up from the Training Choir. Meets Tuesdays and Thursdays after school.

The Chorale - (9th-12th grade)

High school students who strive for a high level of musical achievement make up this ensemble. Compositions from the 18th century to the present are explored, paying particular attention to musical structure, historical significance and text. Membership is open to graduates of the Intermediate Choir and by audition. Meets Tuesday and Thursday

Vox Angelus, Women's Ensemble (7th-12th grade)

One of the strongest divisions, this choir is made up of selected girls from TCC ensembles who demonstrate dedication and the ability to match pitch, sight read and blend with one another. Members explore music from the 17th century to the present, primarily by but not limited to women composers.

Part of the curriculum for students in the Preparatory and Training Choirs, musical skills, literacy, and knowledge are taught through games, lessons, and exposure to musical material.

At Trenton Children's Chorus, our mission is to give young people the chance to sing a wide range of choral literature, especially those who might not otherwise have an opportunity to do so; and to provide a way for children and youth from different backgrounds to get to know one another through artistic endeavor.
